Les Reed appointed FA technical director to replace Dan Ashworth

• Reed sacked as Southampton vice-chairman last month
• Ashworth taking role with Brighton in the spring

Les Reed has been appointed as the Football Association’s new technical director. The 66-year-old succeeds Dan Ashworth, who will take up a new role with Brighton in the spring.

Reed was dismissed as Southampton vice-chairman last month, a move which proved a precursor to the sacking of Mark Hughes as manager.
