Sophie Jones banned for racial abuse and leaves Sheffield United

• Player’s contract terminated by mutual consent, say United

The Sheffield United women’s player Sophie Jones has been banned for five matches after being found guilty of racially abusing an opponent during her club’s Championship match against Tottenham in January and left her club by mutual consent.

The striker was also fined £200 and ordered to attend an Football Association education course after being accused of making monkey noises at Spurs centre-back Renée Hector.
