Everton frustrate Chelsea after Ashley Williams enjoys lucky escape

Another step forward for Everton under Sam Allardyce, another afternoon of torment for Chelsea and Antonio Conte. Head bowed, hands deep in pockets, the Italian was a picture of frustration after watching his team dominate at Goodison Park but fail to find a way past a supremely well-drilled home defence.

Everton’s unbeaten run under their new manager remains intact thanks to excellent displays from their expensive summer recruits, Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane, plus Chelsea’s over-reliance on Eden Hazard. The playmaker was once again mesmerising in a dominant visiting display but was left to do too much on his own.
