Romelu Lukaku explains his goal celebration against Everton
Romelu Lukaku has passed off his goal celebration for Manchester United against Everton on Sunday as ‘a bit of banter’ following accusations that he gauded his former supporters.
After scoring Manchester United’s third goal in a 4-0 rout, Lukaku raced away to celebrate and cupped a hand to his ear in the direction of the Everton fans after they had ironically cheered his errant free-kick earlier in the match. The 24-year-old’s reaction to scoring against the club where he played for four years has reignited the debate about whether players should celebrate against their former employers.
However, Lukaku was quick to play down the incident in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.
“I mean, it’s another goal and I’m happy with
the win. It [the celebration] was just a bit of banter, after [they
cheered] the free-kick I missed,” he said.
