'World class' Bert van Marwijk named new Socceroos coach

• Dutchman to lead Australia at this year’s World Cup

Football Federation Australia have plumped for a foreign coach, again doing down the Dutch route by appointing Bert van Marwijk as the man to lead the Socceroos in their World Cup campaign later this year in Russia.

FFA on Thursday confirmed the appointment of the 65-year-old as Ange Postecoglou’s successor on a short-term contract, with longer-term arrangements be announced “in the near future”.
