Tommy Lawrence, former Liverpool goalkeeper, dies aged 77



  • Goalkeeper won three major trophies in 390 appearances at club
  • Lawrence made news in 2015 after chance encounter with reporter

The former Liverpool goalkeeper Tommy Lawrence, a key member of Bill Shankly’s side in the early 1960s, has died aged 77.

Lawrence joined Liverpool as an apprentice and made his debut in 1962 during a 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion. He became affectionately known as “The Flying Pig” due to both his physique and flair for spectacular, acrobatic saves.
